WHY: Matt Strahm gets his first real chance as a starting pitcher for the Padres, spending all of last season pitching out of the bullpen or in an “opener” role, and tries to continue the stretch of good outings for a young San Diego rotation.
The Padres are hoping that their bats finally come alive in this series, against an Arizona team that got knocked around by the Dodgers’ hitters, as Manny Machado and Franmil Reyes were very quiet in the opening series vs. the Giants.
