Padres fans are understandably excited about yesterday’s Manny Machado news. But part of signing a star player is selling merchandise, and Padres Store operator Delaware North is eager to do just that. Jerseys with Machado’s name and number were spotted in the store earlier today.

The Union-Tribune’s Kevin Acee reported that the Padres did not approve, as they insist that they have not signed Machado yet (nudge nudge wink wink). So the jerseys will get shoved in a back room until the new superstar is officially signed. The good news is we now have a date for that.
mMachado was at the ballpark today for a physical, and will get poked and prodded again tomorrow for insurance reasons. After all of that per Acee, the “team plans to announce the signing of the All-Star infielder in the next 24 hours and officially introduce him at a Friday morning news conference at their complex in Arizona.” Then the store will be free to sell you all the Manny Machado merch you desire.
