The Padres have hired Larry Rothschild as the new pitching coach. He will be replacing Darren Balsley.

Balsley had been the pitching coach for the Padres for 17 seasons. He was the pitching coach under 6 managers including two interims during his time in San Diego.

Rothschild brings some experience to the Padres. Prior to being hired in San Diego, Rothschild was the pitching coach for the Yankees for nine seasons. He was fired following the 2019 season.

Before the Yankees, Rothschild was the pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs for nine seasons as well. He was also the manager for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998-2001.

He has been able to develop a lot of young pitchers in his time as the pitching coach of these clubs. This is a smart hire by Jayce Tingler and Rothschild could help turn some pitching issues around.
