Padres Prospect Open Forum, 13-20 JAN 19

"I'm comin' for you, MLB!" - FTJ, probably

Welcome back, everyone! We inch ever closer to the glorious return of Spring and Baseball. Let's take a look at what happened last week, prospect-wise.

*** Several of the Winter League's continued their post-season play. Only a few Padres prospects remain in action, but that doesn't mean there's a lack of excitement. As roydjt posted last week, uber-prospect FTJ crushed a walk-off homer, then launched his bat out into the universe as an emissary to alien races (yes, it was as glorious as it sounds). Luis Torrens continues to play well down in the Venezuelan League, and Michael Gettys is still impressing down in the Aussie League.

*** The Pads avoided arbitration, signing all remaining eligible players to deals, notably RHP closer Kirby Yates, C Austin Hedges, and LHP reliever Robbie Erlin.

*** In other news, Wil Myers stated that he'll hang up his 3B-glove, and will return to the OF in 2019 following a conversation with AJ Preller and Andy Green. While I've made my feelings known about Myers in the OF (short version: not a good idea), my guess is the Padres are concerned about the health of OFs Manny Margot, Franchy Cordero, and Franmil Reyes, given the fact that all three sustained some type of off-season injury. Or, they are hoping that a return to the OF allows Wil to regenerate some trade value. In any case, the Padres remain in the hunt for a starting 3B.

I'll continue to post stats from games down in the comments section. See or hear anything interesting, feel free to post it as well.
