The Padres kick off another little two-game series, this time against the Diamondbacks. Bryan Mitchell kicked things off on the mound and otherwise crushed it. A few Pads bats were hot, and the defense was on point.
Mitchell put in a great 5 innings of work, allowing just a single run and five hits. Across those 5 innings he walked three. Thanks to Mitchell, and a strong showing from Wingenter, Castillo, Stammen, and Yates’ relief efforts, the Padres had the Snakes locked down.
Good pitching might not have even mattered with Franmil Reyes at the plate today. In the top of the second with two on, Reyes decimated an inside 90MPH sinker on the hands, sending it oppo right-center. Two innings later, he popped off a solo HR to left-center for his 15th home run of his Padres 2018 season.
Austin Hedges tacked on two more runs with an RBI double in the 8th, and thanks to some great D in the bottom of the inning, including Eric Hosmer snagging a liner with two on, the Pads kept their sizable lead.
The Friars get one more against the Diamondbacks tomorrow before taking a break on Wednesday and heading to Cincinnati.
