Padres 4, Giants 5: Franmil crushes it, Stammen blows it

MLB: San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres will only get so many more losses this season, and tonight was one of them. Hunter Pence was yet again a thorn in the Pads’ side, Franmil Reyes was returning the favor, but the Giants edged ‘em out by the end of the game.

Joey Lucchesi gave up 7 hits and 3 of those earned runs, but also struck out 8 across 5 innings. He gave up a 2-run HR to Pence in the second inning, then an RBI-double to him in the 4th. Strahm, Castillo, and Yates put up scoreless innings. Stammen allowed a bloop single, just barely trapped by Renfroe, and two go-ahead runs crossed the plate.

Renfroe was the first to put up a run tonight, an RBI-double to score Freddy Galvis. Galvis would also be scored on a Franmil RBI-single. Later, in the 5th, Reyes would have a home run reviewed and ruled a true HR, scoring Ellis and putting the Pads up 4-3 before their lost lead.

The Friars will get one more swing at the Giants at home tomorrow to avoid the sweep.
