There’s one team that the Padres had the number for this season, and that team was the Mariners. The Pads took their final meeting against Seattle today, and completed the entire Vedder Cup sweep.
Joey Lucchesi kept things together, lasting 5 innings but giving up 3 earned runs across 5 hits, one of them a home run. 3 more innings of relief work came from Wingenter, Stock, Castillo, and Stammen, stopping the Mariners hard at 3.
The Pads would end up getting through to former Friar Wade LeBlanc, with Austin Hedges starting the scoring at the top of the 2nd with a two-run homer. In the top of the 3rd Myers added on a run with an RBI-double, and then Hunter Renfroe made things crooked with a 2-run HR of his own in the 5th.
The Mariners would only end up within a run of tying things after Kyle Seager popped a solo HR off Kirby Yates. They couldn’t pull enough together though, and despite giving up one more single in the bottom of the 9th, Yates would end the inning and the two-game series in Seattle.
The Pads start their series against the Texas Rangers on Friday with Robbie Erlin taking the mound.
