Roster moves: Urias, Brewer, Richard, & Asuaje

Good afternoon, Padres fans! It’s a good afternoon for two Padres players, and a not-so-good afternoon for two others. I’ll let my friend Brandon save you a click for today’s roster moves:

As reported earlier today, Luis Urias is making his MLB debut and will reportedly be starting tonight’s game against Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners. He’s taking the 25-man roster spot of Carlos Asuaje, who has been hitless in four games since his recent recall from El Paso, where he will return to lead the Chihuahuas in their quest for a PCL title.

Clayton Richard hasn’t missed a turn in the Padres rotation until now, with some inflammation in his left knee earning him some R&R just days before the September 1 roster expansion. Taking his place is Colten Brewer, a righty reliever who has been nursing a strained oblique. Brewer was lit up for four runs in less than an inning in his MLB debut way back in April, but has been successful in three separate single-game call-ups since then. In the meantime, he’s posted a respectable 1.17 WHIP and a 60:15 K:BB ratio in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
