The Padres will get the chance to face a winning team after beating up on NL cellar-dwellers in Miami and Cincinnati by welcoming in the Atlanta Braves into Petco Park for a 3 game set.
Clayton Richard (3-6, 4.74 ERA) will get the ball tonight. For the most part, Clayton has done exactly what the Padres have asked of him: eat innings. While he may not always give the Friars the best opportunity to win (surrendering at least 2 earned runs in every outing since March) he has stuck around for the majority of the games he starts (his shortest start was 4 innings back on May 2nd). In his last appearance Richard went 7 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts in a game that ended on a wild Hunter Renfroe walk off error/single/talc bath.
The upstart and youth-energized Braves will send Julio Teheran (4-3, 4.03 ERA) to the mound. Teheran has had prior success facing off against San Diego: he went six innings last year and got the win behind a 5 hit, 2 run, 5 strikeout effort. Pads fans will not get to see Braves phenom Ronald Acuña Jr. thanks to a misstep on first base leading to a minor knee injury.
Tonight’s game starts up at 7:10 PM.
