-tap- -tap- this thing still on? It is? Cool.
After coming out of San Francisco with a series loss the Padres will get an interleague matchup started with the Texas Rangers in Arlington this afternoon.
Joey Lucchesi (3-3, 3.86 ERA) did not have the greatest comeback from the DL, going only an inning and change against the Oakland Athletics last week. The rookie lefty surrendered 4 earned runs on 3 hits, but 2 of those hits were dingers and left 1 pitcher on a short leash. This will be Lucchesi’s first appearance against Texas, and he will have to try to get his fuego back against a Rangers team coming home after a very solid road trip.
While the Rangers boast the same record as the Padres, they’re saddling back up into Texas as victors of 7 of their last 8 games, only losing yesterday’s contest thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Jose Berrios of the Twins. The Rangers will try to keep up their winning ways behind Cole Hamels (4-6, 3.41 ERA), a product of Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego (read it here first before the broadcast). The veteran lefty leads the Rangers in ERA, innings pitched (92 1/3), starts (15), and strikeouts (92). The Padres will be hard-pressed to get production against Hamels; he’s 9-2 with a 2.25 ERA against San Diego and nary a Padre has any statistically noteworthy advantage against the lefty (did you know Eric Hosmer is 0-13 against Cole and that’s why he’s sitting tonight!?).
Tonight’s contest is an after-work special at 5:05 PM.
Game Time: 5:05 PM PST
