The Padres continue their four-game set against the Giants tonight, hoping to even up the series after getting shut out in last night’s opener. Clayton Richard looks to continue a nice stretch of success while redeeming himself from his most recent start in San Francisco.
Richard had a rough start to his season, going 1-5 over his first eight starts, the worst of which was against the Giants at AT&T Park.He only lasted four innings, a season low, while giving up seven runs (six earned), a season high. But soon after that he started to turn things around. Since those first eight starts, he’s 5-1 and has brought he ERA down from a 5.72 to a 4.31.
On the hill for the Giants tonight will be Chris Stratton, who is hoping for a repeat of the last time he faced the Padres. On April 12th in San Diego, he held the Padres to just one hit and three walks in seven shutout innings. It remains his best start of the season so far, though he’s been pitching well lately. Like Richard, Stratton in 5-1 over his last seven starts, with a 3.79 ERA over that stretch. He most recently limited the Dodgers to one run on three hits in six innings of work in L.A.
