The Padres suffered a brutal loss today with the relentless Oakland lineup pushing all the way to our Cory Spangenberg. Before Spangy on the mound the Padres starting pitching and subsequent relief work was torn up a little.
Joey Lucchesi did not have a welcome return to Petco, lasting a mere 1 2/3rd inning, giving up 4 earned runs, 2 of them home runs. Despite notching 3 strikeouts in his short outing with a scoreless 1st inning, Joey managed to hit a batter, walk two, and allow two home runs in the following inning. He was relieved by Robbie Erlin, who also gave up two home runs, 3 runs total.
The Padres would score one run in the 3rd, from none other than Spangenberg’s RBI single, and eventually some more runs from a Christian Villanueva home run in the 9th, a Travis Jankowski RBI-double, and another Spangy RBI.
But more A’s runs would pour in throughout the game; three more from Phil Hughes who also gave up a homer. By the time Cory Spangenberg took the mound for his second time of the season the Padres would be down 10-1. He would end up walking two, inducing two pop flies, give up an RBI-single and RBI-double, and finish his outing with a pop fly.
Cory now has two full innings pitched in 2018 with an ERA of 13.50, a WHIP of 3.50, and has allowed 4 hits, 3 earned runs, and 3 walks.
