The Padres tack on another series win and will head into Atlanta to see if they’re capable of winning inside SunTrust Park behind Tyson Ross.
Tyson (5-3, 3.43 ERA) has been a stalwart of the Padres rotation so far this season and has garnered plenty of interest in trade rumors. The 31-year-old righty has carried a solid May into a couple good June performances against both the Marlins and Reds. The Padres have backed up Ross on the mound as well: the team is 10-3 with Ross starting, his last loss coming in over a month ago against the Nationals. Tyson has allowed 3 earned runs or less in each of his 6 starts since, going at least 5 innings per start. In 4 appearances (3 starts) Tyson is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA versus Atlanta. He’ll open the series up facing Anibal Sanchez.
Sanchez (2-0, 2.37 ERA) has only made 3 starts after a return from a 6 week long DL stint due to a hamstring strain. The righty has returned to form, however: in his last 2 games he held the Dodgers to 2 earned runs in 5 1⁄3 and Washington to 2 unearned in a solid 7 inning effort. The 12 year vet boasts a 1.46 ERA for June and may prove to be tough against a Padres team that had a rough go last year in Atlanta’s debut of their new ballpark. The Padres hitter with the most success against the native Venezuelan is Eric Hosmer (15-43, .349 BAA).
Today’s game starts at 4:35 PM PST. Let’s see if the Padres can continue their series win streak!
