Padres 0, Nationals 4: Padres forget to score at least once

MLB: Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

After a rough loss to the Nationals last night the Padres started game 2 with Clayton Richard on the mound against Jeremy Hellickson, who had just came off 5.2 innings of holding the Pirates to no runs. Tonight, he did the same to the Padres in 6.2 innings.

Unfortunately, Clayton Richard could only keep the Padres in the game until the top of the 5th when Matt Adams took him for an RBI-double and Pedro Severino took him for an RBI-single. By the 7th, the Nationals had 7 hits against Richard and 3 earned runs, despite Richard biting back with 8 K’s.

Adam Cimber was tagged for a run in the 9th, on a sac fly, despite a good throw from Manuel Margot from center.

The only Padres to record a hit today were Travis Jankowski, Franchy Cordero, and Raffy Lopez in the 7th and 8th innings. Jankowski drew a walk, too, so there’s that.

The Padres will have a chance to score at least one more run against the Nationals for the final game of the series. Joey Lucchesi will get the start since going up against the Dodgers back in Mexico.
