Padres 2, Nationals 10: Friars get shelled in D.C.

MLB: San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres didn’t see a whole lot of luck today against the Nationals. The game seemed nearly over halfway through as San Diego pitching was getting lit up by Washington hitting.

Robbie Erlin was torn up for 4 straight innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits, two of them home runs in the second and third innings. The rest of those 6 came from RBI doubles in the second inning, giving the Nationals a 6 run lead before the Padres would put a run on the board. Bryan Mitchell was also blown up for 2 homers and a total of 4 earned runs.

The only Padres runs that would make it to the board would come from Franmil Reyes’ very first major league home run, a silver lining to the dark muddy cloud of a game. But the battle of home runs were tipped against the good guys, and the Padres fell 10-2.
