A flat showing against a bunch of former Padres brings us to tonight’s game featuring a Padre pitcher we hope will continue to shine as part of the future.
Eric Lauer (1-1, 5.79 ERA) has bounced back extremely well from his rocky (pun intended) first start in Coors. The 22-year-old tossed six innings of shutout ball against the Dodgers in Monterrey in his last game action, yielding 7 hits but nary a run. Lauer will go into tonight’s contest carrying a 10 inning scoreless streak. This game will mark his first excursion against the Cardinals and the lefty will oppose Luke Weaver.
Weaver (2-2, 5.60 ERA) has been middling at best for the Cardinals. The 24-year-old has yielded at least 4 runs in his last 4 starts and wasn’t great in his last outing, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits in only 4 innings against the Cubs. The only time Weaver had faced the Padres he did do well, throwing 7 shutout innings and punching out 10. Tonight’s game will see the return of Jedd Gyorko: in “that’s so Padres” fashion the third baseman is hitting .500 against his former club.
Tonight’s game starts at 7:10 PM PST. Welcome to the weekend!
