The Padres will go to one of their most consistent pitchers for a bounceback game 2 after last night’s heartbreaker in San Francisco.

Tyson Ross (2-2, 3.64 ERA) has already had a good showing against these Giants this season: the veteran righty only allowed one paltry unearned run the last time he faced San Francisco in a 5-1 win earlier this season. While the Berkeley native has been a very nice surprise for the Padres this season his overall numbers in San Francisco haven’t been as good: Tyson is 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA in 4 starts and 6 games overall in seagull-filled AT&T Park. The Padres will get an ample shot to turn things around against a rookie left-hander taking the ball for the Giants.

Andrew Suarez (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will make a 6th man start in tonight’s game thanks to San Francisco playing a doubleheader against Los Angeles. This will only be the 2nd big league start for the lefty; his last major league appearance was in a loss against NL West-leading Arizona on April 11th. Control is the calling card for Suarez: he struck out 7 D-Backs and walked none in his MLB debut. In his last game action Suarez pitched a 7 inning shutout against the Reno Aces, only walking 1 and allowing 1 hit with 9 punchouts. The Padres will have to hope Christian Villanueva can get back to raking against lefty pitching tonight; the Padres have otherwise been dismal against LHPs (.217 batting average against).

Tonight’s contest will start up at 7:15 PM Left Coast Time. Let’s get things turned around for a win!
