Another night, another loss.
The Padres will hope to salvage a series split against the Rockies in afternoon baseball today with Joey Lucchesi on the mound. Lucchesi (0-0, 5.79 ERA) got his first taste of Major League action last Friday against the Brewers, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in 4 2⁄3 innings. While Joey fell victim to a lot of hard-hit balls he seemed to settle in as the night went on; he didn’t issue any free passes. Andy Green commented as much regarding Lucchesi:
“He settled in nicely after a rough start. He’s an interesting study. Nothing seems to bother him.”
The Rockies will counter with another lefty in Tyler Anderson. The Padres will get a chance to prey on a pitcher who is not having the best start to the season: Anderson surrendered 5 runs in the first inning and had to bail after 2 1⁄3 against the Diamondbacks. Tyler has fared relatively well against the Padres...when in Colorado. In one start and 5 2⁄3 innings last season in Petco Anderson coughed up 3 hits on 6 hits. Overall Anderson is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA against the Padres but sports a 3-7 record with a 5.72 ERA when on the road.
