Padres Preview: 04/20 @ D-Backs

Tyson Ross will get the nod in Arizona.

MLB: San Diego Padres at Houston Astros Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Hopefully an off-day to travel up to Phoenix will do a backsliding Padres team some good for the first of three games against first place Arizona tonight.

Taking the mound tonight is Tyson Ross, who has regained much of his form (2-1, 3.50 ERA) and has been a pleasantly consistent arm for a Padres starting rotation that has begun to fray along the middle. Ross has fared well against the Snakes in his career: you might remember his complete game in 2015. Overall Ross is 4-3 with a 2.65 ERA when facing Arizona with only Paul Goldschmidt and David Peralta faring well against Tyson (.333 and .313 against, respectively).

Taking the ball is Matt Koch in place of the injured and lost for the season Taijuan Walker (UCL, Tommy John). Koch is one of the many options available for the Diamondbacks and will look to make an impression in a starting rotation that is boasting an NL West leading ERA (2.87). Koch has made only one start against San Diego and that was way back in the last game of the 2016 season; he only gave up one run in five hits over six innings.

The Padres will welcome back Wil Myers into the lineup tonight and get the bats going again against an NL West rival. Let’s get back into the win column tonight!
