Ross (1-1, 5.25 ERA) has had some mixed results so far in his major league campaign, flashing the promise he once held as an All-Star and then giving up home runs and hanging pitches. Tyson should benefit from facing the Giants while at home: his home ERA at 2.84 is markedly better than his 3.61 ERA when facing the Giants. Hopefully Ross won’t have to pull the team’s offense as did pinch-hitting Clayton Richard did last night. Facing the Padres on the mound tonight will be Ty Blach.
Blach (1-1, 4.11 ERA) may not have quite the night Chris Stratton had against the Padres. Ty is 0-2 versus the Pads with a 3.65 ERA and has an inflated ERA when in Petco Park (5.19). In a “that’s baseball” stat quirk, Blach actually outdid Clayton Kershaw on Opening Day (you might remember that as a Giants win with a Joe Panik home run).
The Padres have made some moves prior to tonight’s action: Colten Brewer will head back to El Paso and Kyle McGrath will rejoin the team.
Oh, and it’s totally not a big deal, but Dinelson Lamet will have Tommy John surgery as many predicted.
Tonight’s game will start at 7:10 PM.
