The Padres face the Giants for the first time this season as they kick off another homestand.

The Padres are back home tonight after going an even 3-3 on their road trip. After a drama-filled series finale against one division rival yesterday, they'll open up their home stand with another division rival tonight.

The San Francisco Giants are making their first trip down the coast to Petco Park, hoping for some better luck against the Padres to start their season. The Friars have bested them 20 games to 9 dating back to the 2016 All-Star Break, including a 12-7 record against them last season, which was a major factor in the Giants finishing last in the NL West, while the Padres finished fourth.

Chris Stratton gets the start for San Francisco after battling hard for the win his last time out. He struggled with his command against the Dodgers, but managed to keep them to two earned runs on four hits and four walks through five innings of work. Tonight will be just his third time facing the Padres, and only second as a starter. He's 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA and 2.000 WHIP through seven total innings.

Going opposite Stratton will be Bryan Mitchell, making his third start as a Padre. His San Diego debut wasn't great - he allowed five earned runs on eight hits and three walks end route to a loss. But he had a much better outing in Houston last weekend, keeping the Astros scoreless with only three hits, though he also walked six batters, through 5 2/3 innings.
