Veteran righty Chris Young will take a start on the mound versus his former Kansas City club in Peoria tonight.
Young has appeared in two games so far, getting four innings of work and collecting one strikeout. Used primarily as a reliever and spot starter, Chris is up for audition in either the rotation or bullpen with the Padres and will try to make an impression against his former Royals club.

In developing camp news, a fresh round of cuts has been made to the pitching staff:
The #Padres have optioned Walker Lockett and re-assigned Kyle Lloyd, Brett Kennedy, Jacob Nix and T.J. Weir to minor league camp. #PadresST

Walker Lockett and Brett Kennedy did not have the best of showings while in big league camp. T.J. Weir did rather well with a clean ERA in 3 innings of work. Kyle Lloyd also had a good showing despite a limited sample size. Top prospect Jacob Nix never saw game action thanks to a leg injury and will recuperate in minor league camp.
In other injury news it appears oft-injured Alex Dickerson will miss Opening Day with an elbow ailment and could be shelved going into April. Matt Szczur will make an appearance in either of the next couple games.
Tonight’s game picks up at 5:05 PM PT and is a radio-only affair with Jesse Agler and Tony Gwynn, Jr. manning the booth.
