Padres Preview: 03/29 vs. Brewers

It’s Opening Day!

San Diego Padres

We made it! Opening Day is here!

The Padres will kick off the 2018 season at home against the new-look Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park. The Brewers will stick around for a 3 game set before the Padres get a day off on Sunday.

Clayton Richard will take the Opening Day start as announced a few weeks prior. Richard (3.75 ERA in 4 Spring Training starts) will take his first Opening day start and try to continue the Opening Day win streak (Padres won against the Giants last year, lost the previous 2 Opening Days). The Padres are 21-28 overall on Opening Day. Wil Myers will get the start in right field and Jose Pirela will get the nod in left. The competition for second base has resulted in Carlos Asuaje getting the start at the keystone.

The Brewers will send Chase Anderson as their “ace” to the mound for today’s festivities. Anderson had a pretty solid season last year (2.74 ERA in 25 games) and is part of a Brew Crew looking to heavily contend this season after an 86-win 2017 campaign. The team will sport new faces in the outfield: Eric Hosmer’s former teammate Lorenzo Cain will play center and import from Miami Christian Yelich will take left. Noted cheater Ryan Braun will appear at first base for the first time in his career thanks to the restructured Milwaukee outfield.
