Joey Fuego will get the ball today against Cleveland.

Joey Lucchesi will get a start in a game I wish was televised today against the Cleveland Indians in Goodyear this afternoon.

Lucchesi has been nothing short of impressive in his appearances throughout Spring Training: in 3 games and 7 innings pitched Joey sports a clean ERA and has only allowed 2 hits with 6 strikeouts. The funky delivery and excellent repertoire of pitches has put the lefty at the top of many fan’s lists to reach the major league rotation this season.

Huh? There was a game yesterday too? My bad; I got excited by another release of caps and uniforms.

Quick recap of yesterday: Luis Perdomo pitched 5 innings and was scoreless through 3, ending his day after yielding 5 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. In relief only Kirby Yates and Kyle McGrath yielded one run apiece (Colten Brewer and Phil Maton had clean outings). Wil Myers had a 2-hit day, Eric Hosmer hit a 2-run blast and youngster Hudson Potts hit a dinger of his own to lead the Padres past the White Sox 4-3.

Today’s game will see Chase Headley at 1st and “new” roster addition Christian Villanueva at the hot corner. Where and how Villanueva will find playing time will be another question entirely; he’s slated to back up Headley, Hosmer, and Galvis. All three played over 146 games last year and the team is emphasizing on-base percentage with the inclusion of Headley in the lineup. I’d conservatively say to expect pinch-hit appearances and occasional 3B starts for the 26-year-old.

Today’s game will pick up at 1:05 PM PST and sadly is only on the radio (or your At-Bat app).
