New Padre and face of the franchise™ Eric Hosmer will face off against his former team for the first time in Peoria for Spring Training. The former Royal first baseman will assume the same duties for the Padres this afternoon.

The signing of Hosmer for the Padres has already had a positive impact with some of the developing players taking part in Padres camp. Eric has reportedly taken a mentorship role with up-and-coming infield talents Luis Urias and Fernando Tatis, Jr., two players who Padres fans are hoping share the infield with Hosmer sooner rather than later.

Bryan Mitchell will get another start and has made a good impression so far, pitching two scoreless frames with a strikeout in his first appearance for the Padres.

Christian Villanueva will get DH duties again today after crushing a grand salami in yesterday’s un-televised action. While Headley will get another start today at third, it will be difficult for the Padres to keep Villanueva off the roster if he continues his torrid hitting throughout the spring.

Luis Urias will get another look at second today and is so far king of second base in a way you wouldn’t expect: his four hits collected so far in Spring Training have all been doubles.

A little roster change for today’s game may be in the works as well: appearing above to start left is Jose Pirela, though the At-Bat app shows Edward Olivares (part of the return for Yangervis Solarte) starting in left.

Today’s game starts at 12:10PM Left Coast Time and will be televised on Fox Sports San Diego.
