It’s a good day today.
It’s time to play some baseball!
The Padres will kick off their Spring Training slate of games with today’s charity game against
natural rival the Seattle Mariners, with whom they share the Peoria complex. This year’s spring training also marks the 25th anniversary of the Padres in Peoria; you’ll see some additional designs on the field to celebrate the occasion.
Today’s lineup features faces old and new:

Batting 5th is Allen Craig, formerly of the Red Sox and Cardinals. Craig will be playing to back up Eric Hosmer and is something of a reclamation project. Hitting DH is young up-and-coming Lake Elsinore Storm catcher Austin Allen. Allen possesses a very promising bat though may be too physically large to remain at the catcher position. Raffy Lopez will bat 7th and is auditioning to back up Austin Hedges. Javier Guerra is in the 8th spot and will attempt to recapture some of the shine that made him a top prospect after crashing in the Padres system. Dusty Coleman will bat last and is considered back up insurance for Freddy Galvis.
The Padres will send a plethora of arms out to the mound today. Brett Kennedy will get the nod for the start though you’ll see auditions from Kyle Lloyd, Miguel Diaz, Buddy Baumann and Tom Wilhelmsen. Andy Green has indicated he’ll use around 8 pitchers for today’s action.
You can catch today’s game on Fox Sports San Diego and 97.3 FM, the new radio station for Padres broadcasts.
You may also see a different cap being worn by both teams today; though the SD on the cap will be somewhat similar to our Padres, teams across MLB have chosen to show solidarity for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by donning the caps of the baseball team for warm-ups and/or game action.
