Padres Preview: 09/09 @ Diamondbacks

The Padres look to clinch a series win in Arizona behind Jhoulys Chacin.

Last night despite a good comeback effort from the Diamondbacks, the Padres held on for a win in the series opener at Chase Field. While ending their own losing streak, they also put an end to a franchise-long 13-game winning streak for Arizona, who are very close to clinching a spot in the playoffs.

In game 2, the Padres will give the ball to Jhoulys Chacin, who last met with the Dbacks in back-to-back starts, with very different outcomes, back in April. In the first of those starts he dominated, throwing eight scoreless frames and keeping them to only three hits and a walk. But the second time around, at Chase Field, he gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings of work.

Zack Godley will make the start for Arizona, facing the Padres for the first time since May. He took a loss in San Diego after allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk through seven innings of work. In another start against the Padres back in April at Chase Field, he went five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits and three walks, resulting in a no-decision. Through his first three years in the Majors, Godley is 1-2 with a 5.63 ERA in seven starts against the Friars.
