Apparently, Travis Wood likes to hit home runs. Also, apparently so do the Cardinals. In an explosive opening to the second game of the series the score was already three times as high as last night’s pitcher’s duel.
Travis Wood was unfortunately left much bloodier than the Cardinals pitching, only lasting 2 innings and being credited with giving up 7 runs (6 earned), 7 hits, and 2 two-run home runs in the first and second inning. Buddy Baumann would end up giving up the 8th run in the seventh inning; another home run.
The Friars were hitting too, just not nearly enough. Wil Myers got himself a two-run RBI-single in the bottom of the first. Then, to add two more runs and bring the Pads within a run, Travis Wood absolutely pulled and crushed a two-run HR:
There are #PitchersWhoRake and there are pitchers who ka-rush!

Despite some stellar defense, the early pitching hemorrhage would prove too much for the Padres to catch up to. Wood couldn’t redeem his ugly innings, and the Padres would drop another to the Cards, 8-4.
The Pads will start hitting back tomorrow when Dinelson Lamet takes the mound.
