The Padres dropped their series opener to the Cardinals Monday afternoon, falling victim to a Carlos Martinez shutout with only three hits compiled amongst them. In game 2 of their four-game set at Petco Park, Travis Wood will get the ball for the home team. Meanwhile Michael Wacha will take the mound for the Cardinals, who are fighting for a wild card spot.
Wood has faced the Cardinals 31 times in his career - more than any other team. He has a 5.37 ERA in those outings. But he's been excellent at Petco Park since joining the Padres at the end of July. In four home starts he has a 1.61 ERA.
Wacha doesn't have as much experience against the Padres going into tonight's matchup, but in his three career starts against them he has a 1.89 ERA. He's coming off a strong start against the Giants, whom he held to one earned run on four hits in six innings of work. Overall this season he has a 10-7 record and 4.20 ERA.
