The San Diego Padres are in their final stretch of games for the 2017 season. Tonight they begin their last road trip of the year, after closing out their home slate yesterday with a loss, and a series split, against the Colorado Rockies. They're in Los Angeles for the next few days for a three-game set against the NL West Champion Dodgers, and in the series opener they'll turn to Travis Wood, who is coming off one of his better starts of the season.

Last Tuesday Wood threw six solid innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks to earn his second start in ten starts since joining the Padres at the trade deadline. He kept the Dbacks to two runs on only three hits, though two of them were home runs. In 11 career outings (five starts) against the Dodgers, all prior to this season, Wood is 5-2 with a 4.23 ERA.

Yu Darvish gets the start for L.A., making just his fourth career appearance against San Diego. He's 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA all-time against the Padres after facing them twice previously this season. In May, as a member of the Rangers, he threw six innings against them and allowed three earned runs on seven hits, without issuing a walk. Then on September 2nd for the Dodgers he pitched his shortest outing of the season, only lasting three innings while giving up five earned runs on eight hits and three walks in a loss at Petco Park.
