The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies continue their series tonight at Petco Park. The Padres took game 1 behind a brilliant shutout performance from the recently-extended Clayton Richard. Today they'll turn to Jordan Lyles as they keep trying to play spoiler to the playoff-hopeful Rockies.
Lyles, the former Rockies relief pitcher, has not been great since joining the Padres pitching staff. In three starts for the team he has an 8.78 ERA. This will be his second consecutive start against Colorado. Last Saturday at Coors Field he only lasted four innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks.
Pitching opposite Lyles will be Jon Gray, who has always seemed to have success against San Diego. In nine career starts against the Friars, he has a 2.50 ERA. He faced them on Sunday in Denver, throwing five shutout innings with only one walk and two hits allowed before a rain delay cut his appearance short.
