Travis Wood has had a rough go of things recently, but he'll try to get back on track this evening as he takes the mound against the Diamondbacks in game 2 of the series at Petco Park. The Padres won last night's series opener and may clinch the series win of they can pull off another victory tonight.
But for that to happen Wood will need to play much better than he did in either of his last two starts. He combined for a total of just 4 1/3 innings against the Cardinals and Twins, allowing 16 runs (15 earned) on 16 hits, including five homers. Tonight will be Wood's 14th overall career appearance (eighth start) against Arizona, and his first and only outing against them this season. In previous years he has accumulated a 2-5 record and 5.11 ERA against them.
Dbacks starter Zack Godley will make his fourth and final start against the Friars in 2017. Despite an 0-1 record in three previous attempts this season, he pitched decently, throwing a total of 19 innings with seven runs allowed. Altogether in 2017, he's posted a 3.00 ERA while going 8-7 in 23 starts.
