The San Diego Padres continue their road trip with a swing through Denver where they'll face the division rival Colorado Rockies, who continue their 2017 playoff quest. Battling on the mound for tonight's series opener will be Clayton Richard and Tyler Chatwood.
Richard is coming off a scoreless outing against the Cardinals. He threw six innings and kept the Cards to five hits and a walk to earn his seventh win, and 13th quality start, of the season. In 17 career appearances (16 starts) against Colorado, Richard in 4-5 with a 5.58 ERA.
Chatwood also held his opponent scoreless in his last start. His five-inning shutout performance in Los Angeles contributed to the Dodgers' 11-game losing streak. In his career, he's faced the Padres 12 times altogether, ten of which were starts. He has a 5-2 record and 4.41 ERA in those outings.
