A late season roster shuffle sends Carter Capps to the 60-day DL with a blood clot.

Blood clots can be cause for concern based on where they are and the possibility for travel to other parts of the body, so here’s hoping it’s nothing serious for a once-promising pitcher still working back to full strength from Tommy John surgery. Capps will end his 2017 campaign with a 6.57 ERA and 7 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched.

Taking Capps’ spot is Cory Mazzoni. You may be surprised to hear Mazzoni was still in the Padres system, hidden deep in the confines of the AZL before performing well enough to warrant a call-up to El Paso. By all appearances Cory has rebuilt himself after a dismal 2015 debut (20.77 ERA!?) and a 2016 campaign lost to injury by pitching more than solidly for the Chihuahuas in August.
Cory will wear #60 and will join the Padres as they take on the Twins in interleague action this evening.
