Padres 3, Reds 8: Travis Wood had a bad time in Cincinnati

While Myers and Margot go yard.

Apparently there will be no basic, one-run wins or losses in Cincinnati this week. After whooping on the Reds yesterday they came back to take the second win of the four game series. The Pads still have a chance to split the whole thing tomorrow, but tonight’s blueprint will need to be shucked for that.

The good

Manuel Margot has been digging the long ball lately. He hit his 10th home run of the season today, a blasted liner into center field. Then, Wil Myers! A home run! Signs of life! He popped a 2-run HR to right field with ease to cut an already-large Reds lead in half:

Meanwhile, on defense, Hunter Renfroe was hanging stars in right field with diving catches, and Yangervis Solarte was getting dirty at second.

The bad

Three runs on seven hits ain’t much. Hunter Renfroe had a two-strikeout game and Carter Capps gave up a couple more runs in his relief work after giving up a bunch of singles in the 6th.

The ugly

Another bad start spoils the game, this time Wood couldn’t seem to avoid giving up a run every other inning. Despite striking out 7, he gave up 2 home runs and 5 earned runs over his 5 innings of work. He also walked four, and his pitch count was over 100 before the 7th.
