Padres Preview: 08/09 @ Reds

MLB: Minnesota Twins at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds head into the third game of their four-game set even at a game apiece. Travis Wood gets the start for the Friars while Asher Wojciechowski toes the rubber for the home team.

Wood will make his third appearance since joining the Padres from Kansas City in July. He split his first two San Diego starts. The first was a six-inning, two run performance against the Pirates in which he struck out seven while only issuing one walk. His last time out, also against the Pirates, he only lasted five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five.

Wood has plenty of experience against the Reds, who drafted him out of high school back in 2005. In 27 career outings (11 starts) against them he is 4-5 with a 2.91 ERA and 1.038 WHIP.

The Reds rookie Wojciechowski is making his first career appearance against the Padres. Through 13 games (five starts) this season, he's gone 2-1 while posting a 4.15 ERA. He's coming off his best start, a five-inning appearance against the Cardinals. He threw five innings of one run ball, keeping St. Louis to three hits and a walk while striking out five.
