Well, we’ve seen the jerseys the Padres will be wearing for the upcoming Players Weekend, and I’m sorry to inform you that, once again, the team will be wearing a bad jersey. This jersey is obviously based on last year’s All-Star Game colors, which featured a small, tasteful amount of yellow paired with a similar amount of navy on a white jersey.

It wasn’t brown, but it wasn’t bad. But when you take that yellow and scale it up, you get the kind of eye-searing effect designed to get a driver’s attention, not anything resembling a good-looking uniform. Compare that to the brilliant Home Run Derby jersey MLB designed for last year’s event to see a more muted yellow that scales up beautifully.

And, of course, all of this is compounded by the eyesore of the Players Weekend cap. The team went with a poorly recolored riff of their retired military logo, which is just the old interlocking SD with some minor embellishments. This was the perfect opportunity to put the Swinging Friar on an on-field cap, and instead we just got a swing-and-a-miss.

We’ve been begging the team to do better with their uniforms, and on a weekend when MLB gave teams freedom to go wild, the Padres went domesticated instead.
