After a rain delay that lasted more than two hours, the Padres couldn't get it done last night in game 1 against the Pirates at PNC Park. They'll try to even up the series this evening behind Dinelson Lamet, who was great his last time out as he earned the fifth win of his rookie season.
Lamet faced the Pirates in his last start, one week ago today. He kept Pittsburgh hitters to two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out seven through six innings of work. However, it took him a season/career-high 104 pitches to get through those six innings.
On the hill for the Pirates will be Gerrit Cole, who started in the only win by the Pirates at Petco Park last weekend. He was fantastic that day, allowing only one run on five hits and two walks, with eight strikeouts to his credit. That was his fifth career start and fourth win against San Diego. He boasts an all-time 1.47 ERA and 1.109 WHIP against the Friars.
