A week ago, Travis Wood took the mound at Petco Park to make his San Diego Padres debut. He threw six innings, allowing two runs on only two hits and a walk. He also collected seven strikeouts en route to the win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He'll face that same Pirates team this evening as the Padres open up a three-game set at PNC Park.
On the hill for the Bucs will be Ivan Nova, who didn't fare so well in his start against the Padres last Saturday. In five innings of work, he gave up four earned runs on eight hits. To his credit, though, he didn't walk a single batter but he struck out six. Perhaps a return to his home ballpark will help, though. In nine starts at home this season, Nova is 7-2 with a 2.83 ERA, as opposed to a 3-6 record and 4.42 ERA away from PNC Park.
