The NL West cellar-dwelling Padres and Giants will conclude their three-game set at Petco Park tonight, with the winner of tonight's matchup taking the series. It'll be a battle of lefties on the hill as Travis Wood gets the ball opposite Ty Blach.
Wood continues to struggle with consistency on the mound. Through his first six starts for the Padres, he is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA. But the better of those outings have taken place in San Diego where, career-wise, he has thrived. In nine lifetime appearances (seven starts) at Petco Park he s 4-1 with a 2.33 ERA. This will be just his third career appearance against San Francisco. He combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings in his first two.
Blach, who is in his third season in the big leagues, had a good start to his season but has struggled as of late. He lost each of his last three starts while posting an 8.82 ERA. And against the Padres last month, he allowed five earned runs on seven hits through seven innings of work. Back in April, however, he threw seven scoreless innings against them, giving up only three hits and issuing two walks.
