Padres Preview: 08/22 @ Cardinals

The Padres got to watch the eclipse while enjoying the day off in St. Louis yesterday. Today they're back at it, opening up a series against the Cardinals to kick off their road trip.

Clayton Richard takes the mound in game 1, coming off his best performance of the year, a complete game (his second this year) against the Phillies at Petco Park last Wednesday. He shut them out, allowing only three hits and a walk while striking out six en route to his sixth win. This will be his first time facing the Cards this season, but he has pitched against them 12 previous times in his career, including five starts, amounting to a lifetime 3-1 record and 4.08 ERA.

Behind Richard, the Padres will try to give Lance Lynn his first loss since the beginning of July. In an eight-game stretch starting July 9th, he's gone 4-0 with a 1.46 ERA. Lynn has faced the Padres five times (all starts) throughout his six seasons in the Majors. He's gone 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA against them.
