The San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals will finish up their four-game series this afternoon at Petco Park. The Padres dropped the first two games of the series, but came out with a win last night to keep hope alive for a split.
Rookie right-hander Dinelson Lamet will get the ball for the home team in the finale. He's undefeated (4-0) in his last five starts, posting a 2.37 ERA through 30 1/3 innings over that stretch. This afternoon will be his first career appearance against Washington.
The Nats will turn to Gio Gonzalez as they go for the series win. The veteran lefty is 11-5 with a 2.49 ERA and 1.127 WHIP so far in 2017, and he's won each of his last three starts going into today's game. He didn't face the Padres earlier this season in D.C., but he has five career starts against them under his belt. He's 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA in those appearances.
