The San Diego Padres started their series against the Phildelphia Phillies with a victory last night. In game 2, Dinelson Lamet will take the mound to try and secure a series win. He'll oppose fellow rookie Mark Leiter Jr., who is making just his fourth Major League start.
Lamet has been pitching well and being rewarded for it lately. He's undefeated (3-0) in his last four starts, posting a 2.31 ERA in that stretch while not allowing any home runs. Tonight will be his first career start against the Phillies.
Leiter is also making his first appearance against the Padres as he takes the place of Vince Velsquez, who has an injured finger. Through 19 outings, including three starts, this year, Leiter has accumulated 46 1/3 innings, posting a 4.08 ERA and 1.230 WHIP.
