Padres Preview: 08/12 @ Dodgers

MLB: Minnesota Twins at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

After winning the series opener in Los Angeles last night, the Padres will try to secure a series win tonight against what has been the hottest team in baseball all season. The 81-34 Dodgers, who suffered just their 14th home loss last night, will give the ball to Hyun-Jin Ryu tonight. The Padres will counter with Jhoulys Chacin.

Chacin had one of his worst outings of the year against the Dodgers back in April. He only lasted 3 1/3 innings and gave up nine earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. Of his three outings against the Dodgers this season, that was the only one at Chavez Ravine. He pitched much better against them at Petco Park, combining for one run on four hits through 10 1/3 innings. Career-wise, Chacin has a 10-8 record and 4.20 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) against L.A.

Ryu has made six career starts against the Padres, posting a 2.19 ERA while going 4-1. Tonight will be his first appearance against them in 2017, and he'll be looking to build on a couple of outstanding performances. In each of his last two starts he threw seven scoreless innings, giving up a total of only six hits while striking out a combined 15 batters.
