A short interleague matchup brings Minnesota to Petco Park in their first meeting since 2014. The Twins will send surprising upstart Jose Berrios to the mound to take on untraded streaking Jhoulys Chacin.
Jhoulys Chacin (10-7, 4.22 ERA) has won his last four decisions despite issuing more walks than usual: 13 in his last 5 starts. Despite the uptick in free passes Chacin is definitely more comfortable pitching at home. The Padres should also see a familiar face return to first base: Wil Myers will look to start again after taking three days off and riding the pine for the last two games of the Pirates series. After only hitting .196 since the All-Star Break, Wil admitted his mentality needed a refresh:
“It’s one of those things where I have to find the right mental approach and find that confidence again. I definitely think it’s going to help. I definitely don’t think it can hurt at all. I think this is the one thing that can only help me.”

On the mound for the Twins is Jose Berrios (9-4, 3.76 ERA) who will make his first outing against San Diego. Berrios has been a pleasant surprise for the competitive Twins, boasting the second-most wins on the Twins staff despite not being in the rotation to start the season. Although Berrios has only allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last fourteen starts his latest starts have been problematic. The 23-year-old hasn’t made it to the 5th inning in two of his last three starts. Minnesota will also be happy to welcome back center fielder Byron Buxton from his rehab stint.
The Padres will try to bounce back after an off-day to take both games of this quick 2-game interleague set. First pitch is at 7:10 Left Coast Time.
