Hey, did you guys read that new Jon Bois thing? Because that would be an infinitely better use of your time than reading about today’s Padres game, which was an unmitigated disaster. Dinelson Lamet got absolutely shredded by Cleveland. The reigning AL champs chased him after scoring six runs in four innings and change. Jose Torres didn’t fare much better, giving up three more in less than half the time. And Kevin Quackenbush helped them into double digits by giving up another pair of runs in his two innings of work.
If you’re looking for a bright side... uh, the Friars hit .400 with runners in scoring position tonight? Of course, they could barely get a man past first, so that’s not exactly representative. The offense failed to draw a single walk, but they fanned eight times. Incidentally, that’s three more times than hit. And the defense rounded out the bad, bad night, with three different Padres committing errors.
But even with today’s truly embarrassing defeat, the Friars are 6-3 against last year’s World Series participants, so there’s some sort of moral victory in that. Probably. Maybe.
The Padres will be in the City of Brotherly Love tomorrow, where they’ll take on the Phillies at 3:35 PM.
