After winning the first two games at Progressive Field, the Padres will go for the sweep against Cleveland this evening. Rookie Dinelson Lamet will take the hill against veteran Josh Tomlin.
Lamet is coming off his best big league appearance to date. A week ago, in the seventh start of his career, the young righty threw seven scoreless innings against the Braves. He kept them to only four hits and a walk while notching eight strikeouts. In his seven starts this season, he is 3-2 worth a 5.35 ERA.
On the other hand, Tomlin did not pitch so well in his last start. He gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in only 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander has never faced the Padres, who actually drafted him back in 2005 but failed to sign him.
