After back-to-back extra-inning games, the Padres and Giants will conclude their four-game series this afternoon at AT&T Park, both sending rookies to the hill in the finale. Dinelson Lamet will get the start for the Padres while Ty Blach toes the rubber for the Giants.
Today will be Lamet's first career appearance against San Francisco, and hopefully it'll be a successful one. The rookie right-hander gave up five earned runs and lasted only four innings in each of his last two starts, raising his season ERA to 6.40.
Blach has faced the Padres twice before in his young career, but has yet to record a decision against them. He combined for ten innings over those two starts, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, with five walks and four strikeouts. He's coming off a strong start against Cleveland in which he threw seven innings and kept them to just one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
