Austin Hedges is headed to the disabled list after still feeling the aftereffects of a foul ball taken flush to the facemask during Friday’s action against the Giants in Petco.
Austin Hedges was placed on the 7-day concussion DL. The Padres sent him back to San Diego to get him out of elevation. Jose Valdez is back.

Austin was scratched from the lineup in the last two games (yesterday’s scratch coming in last minute) after reportedly still feeling hazy from Friday’s hit. Though Hedges has passed concussion protocol, the team is taking the appropriate (if a bit late) action in letting Hedges rest and recuperate.
Jose Valdez will be taking the Quackenbush line from El Paso to cover Hedges’ roster spot.
