After a quick road trip to Arizona, where they were swept by the Diamondbacks, the Padres are back home and opening up a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals.
Tonight, Jhoulys Chacin will kick things off, making his 13th start of the season. He’s had it rough recently, giving up 13 earned runs through 11 innings in his past three starts. But he’s pitched markedly better at Petco Park this season than he has on the road. He posted a 1.36 ERA at home in five previous starts this season, versus a 10.27 ERA in seven road starts.
The Royals will counter with rookie left-hander Eric Skoglund, who is making just his third Major League start. He made his Major League debut on May 30th, throwing 6 1/3 scoreless, two-hit innings against the Tigers. His second start didn’t go so well, though, as he lasted only two innings, allowing four innings on four hits and two walks.
